๐ŸŸข PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Catholic United Tennis is a GRACEAC Catholic United sport where students from GRACEAC member schools combine to form Catholic United teams and compete against other schools through outside leagues or an independent schedule.

The program provides student-athletes with the opportunity to:

  • ๐Ÿค Create friendships across GRACEAC schools
  • โญ Compete in a positive team environment
  • ๐Ÿ™ Represent Catholic United with sportsmanship and integrity

๐Ÿ”ต WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

๐ŸŽพ Tennis is open to students in:

5thโ€“8th Grade

All skill levels are encouraged to participate.

Whether an athlete is new to tennis or has previous experience, the program is designed to help players improve and enjoy the sport.


๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸจ TEAM STRUCTURE (CATHOLIC UNITED MODEL)

The Catholic United Tennis Program is divided into two teams:

๐ŸŸฆ Catholic United West (CUW)

Families may choose CUE or CUW during registration.

The number of participants may determine team structure and roster placement.

As a Catholic United sport, GRACEAC determines program details including:

  • ๐Ÿ“… Season structure
  • ๐Ÿ“ Practice locations
  • ๐Ÿ‘• Uniforms
  • ๐ŸŽพ Competition format

Coaches are typically parent volunteers, similar to many GRACEAC athletic programs.

Coaches will determine practice schedules based on:

  • Facility availability
  • Court schedules
  • Team needs

๐Ÿ“Œ Since practices take place at West Catholic High School and The CAT, some practices may be adjusted due to high school matches, make-up matches, or facility conflicts.


๐ŸŽพ 5th/6th GRADE TENNIS

Beginning in 2026, GRACEAC will expand tennis opportunities by adding 5th grade to the program.

The 5th/6th grade program will focus on:

  • ๐ŸŽพ Skill development
  • ๐Ÿค Learning the fundamentals of tennis
  • โญ Building confidence
  • ๐ŸŽ‰ Creating a fun introduction to competition

Players will participate in a clinic-style format consisting mostly of practices with several matches throughout the season.

Teams will compete against:

  • ๐ŸŸฆ Catholic United East
  • ๐ŸŸฆ Catholic United West
  • ๐ŸŽพ Other local GRACEAC 5th/6th grade tennis programs

๐ŸŽพ 7th/8th GRADE TENNIS

The 7th/8th grade teams will compete in the:

๐ŸŽพ West Michigan Middle School Conference (WMMSC)

The league consists primarily of public schools throughout the Grand Rapids area and surrounding communities.

Catholic United will participate with two teams:

๐ŸŸฆ Catholic United West (CUW)

๐ŸŸจ Catholic United East (CUE)

The WMMSC league will determine:

  • Competition rules
  • Match schedules
  • League requirements

๐ŸŒธ Spring Season

๐ŸŽพ Practices typically begin after Spring Break.

๐Ÿ† The season will conclude before Memorial Day Weekend.


๐Ÿ‘• UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT

GRACEAC will provide:

๐Ÿ‘• Uniform top

The uniform top must be returned at the conclusion of the season.

Families are responsible for providing:

๐ŸŽพ Tennis racquet

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Tennis shoes

๐Ÿ’ง Water bottle

๐Ÿฉณ Athletic shorts
(Any color is acceptable)
